Welcome to "The Squire's Bounty" the house of Australia's premium craft beer. We provide Tasmania with its first beer and food matching experience in a historic convivial atmosphere.
The Squires Bounty is located in Salamanca Square, accessed also through Grape Bar Bottle Shop in Salamanca Place. We carry the full range of James Squire beers, and seasonal brews on tap catering to every individual taste.
James Squire was the first man to plant hops on Australian soil and a prominent colonial brewer, transported to Sydney as a convict in the first fleet. The venues name (bounty) was chosen to represent the connection with Hobart's naval culture, Tasmania being quite influential in Squire's obsession to create a master brew, James Squire sourced his barley and wheat from the mouth of the Tamar. Master Brewer for James Squire; Chuck Hahn also chooses to use hops from Bushy Park today in some brews
The Bounty opened its doors in December 2009, the refurbishment was designed to embrace the historical aspects of the building. The marriage of original stonework and a modern contemporary restoration creates a unique ambiance. The rustic steel clad walls, timber panel's and tiles throughout the venue tell the story of James Squire and his colourful life.
Whether it be a quick snack or a sit down meal we can provide a beer and food matching experience using the very best of Tasmania's finest produce. Functions and large bookings are welcome. Three large plasma screens show the latest sporting events, and the two gas fires will keep you warm in the cold Tassie winter months.
Come and try one of the tasting paddles and decide on your favourite, the staff are more than happy to talk you through the flavour spectrum and advise you on which item on the menu will fit perfectly with your chosen beer. |
